Derby Lane poker tournaments on hold

Derby Lane has suspended poker tournaments again, in response to a ruling Wednesday from the Division of Pari-Mutual Wagering.

This is the second time since November that tournament action has stopped because of a departmental interpretation of state statutes.


Florida state law limits the maximum bet on poker tables to $2, with a three-raise limit.

In no-limit Texas Holdem games, the tournament game of choice, a bet of "all-in" results in more than $2 being bet.

The poker rooms countered this limitation by issuing special gaming chips for tournaments that represented fractional cents so that no more than a $2 bet would be made even if all the chips on the table were bet.
