I was playing a fixed limit .02/.04 table at PokerChamps, 6 handed, and I get AA in the BB. Everyone limps and I know if I raise everyone will obviously call the extra 2 cents, so I check instead. Flop is J6Q rainbow checked to me and I bet out, 4 callers. Turn is another Q, this time SB bets out and I go ahead and muck. QT ended up taking the pot.
Would it have been a sound move to raise preflop knowing that chances of narrowing the field are slim to none?
In fixed limit I prefer having premium hands in early position so I can raise and keep mediocre hands out, but it seems like there's no way to get rid of limpers from late position. Also, any ideas how this might vary among limits, say when instead of an extra 2 cents it'd be an extra 2 dollars to call? |

I'm going to be totally frank with you. In a .2-.4 limit game you are going to get called with ANYTHING. 2-7o will call you before the flop. if the flop is 2-A-K
anyone with a 2 will call an OBVIOUS ace or king bet in hopes of hitting 2 pair or trips. at those limits it is hardly different then play money.
and yes people will not limp withs hit as much in higher limits, though it DOES happen, just much less likely |

You want to get your money, and your opponents money, in the pot with the best of it. I dont know about you, but I love it when a 7 2 off calls my raise when I hold aces.
As for your check. Horrible. The whole idea of limit poker is to take advantage of your opponents mistakes, not give them a cheap flop when you hold a premium hand. Dont you want them to be putting money in the pot when you've got the best hand? |
