How do you play top pair or two pair on the flop with a flush or straight draw on the board. Do you check or bet. If a bet how much. Then what do you do when the flush or straight is possible

You absolutely don't want to give anyone a free or cheap chance to draw-out on you. Make them pay for it.
Once the flush or straight is possible, it all depends on a number of factors: your position, amount of betting preflop and later, how many players remaining, and what you know about them. With only a single player against you, he might just have 2nd pair (or a pocket pair) and is hoping for lightening. Obviously, the more players, the more likely someone was in it with a draw. |

I typically bet the pot. If the next card is the flush card, he was probably chasing the draw and check/fold. If he doesn't, bet the pot again. The turn usually gives people that sense of finality like "you have no chance of hitting this flush, you might as well fold before it costs you more money." Going all-in is a mistake because it's a lot easier for someone to say screw it I got two cards left and call than to do that on the turn, plus if they have a straight and a flush draw you're only a 55/45 favorite.

Yeh i learned this the hard way. If you put someone on a draw.. force them to pay for it. I used to be so passive thinking a flush draw was out there and i didnt want to bet. I kept getting screwed because their hands kept developing. So now i just force people to pay to see any cards period.

Well, I said it depends on the player. If I knew you to be a good player who didn't play draws and you just called, I'd probably put you on a top pair. If you were a weaker player (the majority he'd be playing against) it's obvious they are on a draw. Why bet when you know they have the flush?
