I have been playing NL HE tournament style in home games for about the past 6 months. I would get lucky at the beginning and thought I knew exactly what I was doing. Then I changed my game a bit and started focusing on position and betting and stopped focusing on the cards. I would have no qualms about reraising with a junk hand after the flop. I was still losing.
After looking around this site I found the most solid strategy, that is also probably the simplest to play. I looked around all morning to find it, but I'll say what stuck in my head.
It went something like "Play solid. premium hands, 10's or better, wired pairs and suited connectors." In a 6 hour 10 man game last nite, I think I saw about 10 flops max and I was in it till the end. I got a couple decent hands early in the game(KJo seemed to be my golden hand) and caught people chasing flushes or straights to win good pots. At that point, I would normally start going in on some weaker hands b/c I had a chip lead, but not last night. I sat on that stack for about 2 hours until we got down to 4 people.
As it got down to heads up, I opened my game up a little bit to try and catch a swing since I was so shortstacked and ended up losing chasing a flush. |
