You are at the final table with 7 players left....
The player under the gun moves all in for $2700....
Everyone folds to you on the big blind ( $800 ), and you have a pocket pair of 5's with $4200 chips left....
Do you make the call? |

Tricky one as i'm a newbie to Poker. However, i had a recent experience that went like this, where i did make the call (for a lot less mind, about $60)
I had a pair of Aces. The flop dealt an Ace and two 9's. The Hole and the River something crap like a 7 and a 3, leaving me with a Full House Aces over 9's.
Me and one other left in, he went "all-in". So did I.
The cards were raked, all the chips went in his direction so i can only assume he had a pair of 9's! |

for me...It would all boil down to the prize money and other chips stacks at the table, and the player making the all in move.
If i am considered a short stack, and with 4200 at the last table then im sure i am, I would be thinking about doubling through, but since this guy is playing from under the gun, i have to put him on a top hand, i can lose $800 now, or get even money on the all in bet. i think a call is in order here, looks like it will be a race with me maybe behind, but you have to remember this guy has to make a move sooner or later with his short stack and 1200 in blinds coming up , so there is a good chance ive ran into A 10 or 44 55 66 77. like i said im sure its going to be a race, if i lose the hand i get the SB next and then 5 more hands to make a move. I call |

As with most things in life, the more information you have the easier it is decide on the appropriate action.
In this case it would be very easy to muck the 55. A tight player going all in under the gun, is a huge red flag. Get away from it. He still could be using this table presence to look strong and be putting out a semi bluff, but the prudent move here is live to fight another day. I would ponder the call for about 1 min then muck. Dont want him thinking hes up against a weaker player.. |
